Tip Refinement

An enlarged, wide or drooping nasal tip can be caused by a variety of factors, such as ethnicity, heredity, and previous nose surgery. At Princeton Plastic Surgeons , our tip refinement procedure specifically focuses on the end of the nose to restore balance and symmetry to your facial profile.

Princeton Plastic Surgeons has a location in Princeton, New Jersey, and is led by board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Adam Hamawy. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and find out if tip refinement surgery can correct your nasal concerns.

What Is Tip Refinement?

The appearance of the nasal tip comes from the size, strength and shape of the cartilage in that area of the nose. Although considered a form of rhinoplasty surgery , tip refinement is more specialized, requiring attention to detail and precision as even millimeters of improvement can sometimes make a difference.

At Princeton Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Hamawy uses special techniques to perform tip refinement rhinoplasty. During this procedure, the tip cartilage is reshaped along with surrounding tissues in order to create a more cosmetically appealing appearance overall.

Benefits

In addition to restoring facial balance, a tip refinement can have several benefits:

  • The natural aging process often has detrimental effects on the soft tissues of the nasal tip, resulting in thicker skin and a drooping appearance. A tip refinement can correct this sign of aging without an extensive procedure.
  • In some cases, having a drooping nasal tip can also impair breathing. To test if this is the case for you, it is suggested to push up on the tip of your nose. If it is easier for you to breathe when you do this, a tip refinement may be right for you.
  • As this procedure is less extensive than a full rhinoplasty, recovery and downtime are reduced.

Candidates

Men and women who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their nasal tip and/or experience breathing impairment as a result of a tip that is drooped, tip refinement surgery may be a solution for you.

During your consultation, Dr. Hamawy will evaluate your individual condition, health, medical history, cosmetic goals and other factors to determine the best course of treatment.

Recovery

This procedure typically takes up to one hour under local anesthesia with mild sedation. Although tip refinement does not require as much recovery time as a full rhinoplasty, seven to ten days should still be taken from work and school in order to ensure proper healing. Doctor Hamawy will provide you with specific instructions for any aftercare that is necessary for your incisions.
